I live in South Florida and have zoysia. The 3 main weeds i fight are crabgrass, nutsedge, and sperge. Would it be better to do Celcuis? or Mix Quinclorac with sledgehammer?

Your story about “thistle” in bird seed creating thistle weeds is nonsense. The seed used in wild bird feed is imported from East Africa and India. It’s basically a coreopsis or sunflower plant. It’s heat treated so that the seed doesn’t germinate. Calling it “thistle” was a marketing stunt from years ago. The industry renamed it Nyjer seed 25 years ago. Again, it doesn’t germinate and even if did it would produce a plant that in no way looks like the thistle you’re discussing. “Expert” information or stories are often wrong and worthless. Take note.

Does using 24D include Sowthisle? I just renovated my father-in-laws lawn but the Sowthistle came back after using preemergent? how can we control it without killing the KBG / PRG?

NE Ohio TTTF with Canadian Thistle infestation in my beds that is creeping into the lawn. Made this mistake of pulling them the first few seasons. I cut the stalk and hand apply GreenShoots foam applicator herbicide in the beds. The lawn I have used Allyn’s method of mowing and then some 2,4-D WeedBGon.

Man I’d get crucified in my Facebook lawn group if I mentioned removing the plugs after aeration.

Ornamec 170 also controls bermudagrass in zoysia. I think that's been out for years.

I think the point could be made a little more clearly that in late spring the difference between the two is obvious due to the seed heads. Also, in northern climates, it may not brown out.

Thanks for the great advice when I first watched this video 3 years ago, I found it again when looking up how to best care for Tall Fescue. I planted Tall Fescue from seed in clay soil on my house in Southern California. I used to mow it at 2.5" and noticed it struggled really bad during our 105+ degree Summers. Last year I raised my mower to 3.5" - 4" and even with less watering, it has thrived so we'll and has kept most weeds out. Few bald spots here and there due to gophers poking through after the Winter. We get snow in the winter and 105+ degree Summers, it has withstood both without issues.

Mowing out quackgrass is a worthless strategy. Saying a prayer might be more effective.

I have a lot of quackgrass in South Eastern Michigan. I usually don't bag my clippings. If I am mowing every day to get rid of quackgrass do I need to bag them?

After getting my soil test results back from A&M and watching this video, the light bulb went off. After Easter I started getting yellow tips in my St Augustine. Looking at my soil test, I am high on every single element except nitrogen and have been battling with my st augustine for quite some time. Nothing had been applied yet this season as st a really doesn't need a whole lot of nitrogen. The main thing that led me to this video is that my ph is 7.8(DFW area). Can't wait to apply some magical for alkaline and compacted soils to remedy this. Prime example of soils being "locked up." Thanks LCN.

Allyn- if you test every 2-3 years, do you simply follow the fertilization program from the previous year until you retest and get new recommendations?

Very informative, loved it. I got tuned onto MySoil via another social media influencer for warm season grass prior to going through the YM Bootcamp. Nice partnership between Yard Mastery and MySoil; using the YM app and the branded soil test kits as a one-stop shop to manage my entire lawn rather than doing it piecemeal (nothing wrong with that approach but the YM ecosystem is easier to follow!)

Had a beautiful lawn in the summer, but now around the edges of the retaining wall I have bare spots and runs. I also have dead spots in the yard @ 3 ft in diameter. Got any ideas. Have a carried out you soil program with soil test I’m stumped.

Nice to get a lawn podcast again. This was a good one. After 2 years on an almost all liquid program it looks much better, the invasive Bermuda does make the front look strange this time of year. Because of my soil tests I run a centipede firt 1-15-1 with the liquid. This was after putting down 3 lbs over the course of a year. The soil test didn’t budge. But the yard looks great. I did use the new soil fit a few times at the end of the season. ✌️

Can this lab test not only soil samples, but also samples of the fertilizers I use? Specifically, tests of a combination of fertilizers that I create and use at once, both granular and liquid, and organic fertilizers like compost, etc? I think it would be very beneficial to analyze and confirm the analysis of the different variety of sourced fertilizers. I also wanted to provide some feedback on this video and let you know has been one of the most informative and useful videos you have done and find myself watching rewatching it. Thanks for being my go to for information but also enjoyment while mowing over the last several years!
